BORED

Dear Sean,
I have recently found myself in a rut. When it comes to relationships, school, and work. I am looking for something else out of life. Every day is the same thing. I am feeling very bored within my own self, and I'm worried because this is the first time in my life I have felt like this. I have been heavily drinking to self medicate and it's hard to see an end to all of this. The only thing that gets me through the day is knowing that someday I will die. So I am asking you Sean, how can I spice things up some?

-Basically Over Repeating Each Day

Dear BORED,
It's normal to fall into a rut every now and then, an
d the fact that you've never experienced anything like this before makes you one of a select few. As for the rut you're in now, I'd tell you to take some time to examine your life and see if there's anything specific that's causing these unwanted feelings. If you can't pinpoint a cause and remove it, the best advice I can give you is to shake things up. Set aside some time each day to do something you wouldn't normally do; whether it's trying new foods, making conversation with people you've never talked to before, or even going to places you've never been. If you have the time and money (although in these economic times most people don't,) why not take a trip? The point is, the only way to get out of your rut is to free yourself from the monotony of your day-to-day cycle. If your boredom continues, it may speak to a deeper issue, for which I would recommend consulting a doctor.
